Rock Climbing
Where to Climb
Most children will climb anything from a young age, from furniture to walls and trees. There is a human natural fascination with climbing what ever we can to see what it’s like at the top.
One of the most asked questions are “Why do you climb?” and there are many answers: to see the view, because no-one else had done it or because it was there, etc, etc... Many climbers experience a feeling of freedom and accomplishment through climbing.
Challenge your family to go climbing this summer and experience the thrill, feelings achievement with the added support of your family cheering you on. There are many types of climbing from bouldering: Ascending boulders or small outcrops, to Canyoning: Climbing along canyons for sport or recreation. With the most recognised being Rock Climbing: Ascending rock formations.
Competitions
Most climbing competitions are held on climbing walls rather than in natural surroundings to make things more competitive and preserve the environment from being over climbed and damaged.
Competitions are a fairly new sport in comparison to many with different challenges from speed to the more technical of Lead and Bouldering. Many of these competitions are held throughout the Alps with the World Championships being held in Italy for the first time in 2011.
Climbing on Holiday
There are many technical terms for the equipment from the harness to the rope, which most people recognise moving on the hex, carabiner and wallnuts…
The effort is taken out of climbing when you have a try when on holiday with Esprit on an Alpine Adventure holiday. You can try it on your own, just the children or as a family. Our instructor shows you how to use the equipment, how to climb and then how to abseil back down to the ground. The climbing pitches all have different gradients so you can try different routes.
